Excellent distribution, together with strong wholesale and retail trade sectors, keeps Lubbock's economy stable.  A central location and access to multiple forms of transportation - trough the Lubbock International Airport, 28 interstate and intrastate trucking companies, and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway - have combined to help Lubbock develop as an important regional warehousing and distribution center.

Located in the geographic center of the North American market, Lubbock International Airport (LIA) provides ready land transportation access to the east and west coasts, Mexico, and Canada. LIA is developing an industrial park adjacent to the airport to support the operations of new companies. 

Wholesale and retail trade are also big business in Lubbock.  The city is the wholesale center for 54 counties and more than 1.16 million people.  All industries reported steady growth of 2.4 percent of the second quarter of 1997.
