Located in the heart of the South Plains, Lubbock offers a rich history, a dynamic

Long respected for its musical roots, Lubbock is also home to a healthy performing and
visual arts scene that includes museums, theaters, and art galleries. Restaurants
are also abundant, offering a wide variety of fare, and the region's populace finds ample

Located in the geographic center of North America, Lubbock boasts an excellent
transportation system that, whether by air or ground, offers easy access to both coasts,
Mexico, and Canada. Lubbock International Airport which is server by four commercial
carries and 10 air freight companies, has helped make the city a regional distribution and
warehousing center.
A business-friendly community, Lubbock's economy is grounded in agriculture,
manufacturing, and wholesale and retail trade, while government, education, and health

Lubbock has three public school districts, numerous accredited private and
parochial schools, and five institutions of higher learning, including Texas Tech
University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Texas Tech - which
celebrated its 75 Th anniversary in 1998 - is more than 25,000 students strong and, with
construction of the United Spirit Arena, will have the premier basketball facility in the
Big 12 conference.
The city's other institutions of higher learning, Lubbock Christian University.,
Wayland Baptist University, and South Plains College, combine with Texas Tech to give
Lubbock a strong scholastic focus. Serving the area's younger students, the Lubbock,
Frenship, and Lubbock-Copper school districts offer low student-teacher ratios and great
academic enrichment opportunities.
People in West Texas and eastern new Mexico have come to depend on Lubbock's
state-of-the-art medical facilities. In fact, Lubbock provides the largest
collection of health care services between the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and Phoenix.
Arts and culture, health care, transportation access, business diversity, educational

Commerce. The Chamber - celebration its 85th anniversary in 998 - is
responsible for a variety of projects that are vital to preparing the area for its future.
Just as it did in 1913, the Chamber focuses its energies on promoting the city,
attracting business, and supporting agriculture.
Having kept the city on the move for 85 years, the Lubbock Chamber of commerce is
making a move of its own, in 1998, the Chamber will relocate its offices to the Lubbock
Business Center at 1301 Broadway. In addition to the Chamber, the new location will
house the Convention and Tourism Bureau, Market Lubbock Inc., and the executives offices
of Lubbock Power & Light. This move will enhance communications between these
agencies, whose common goal is to advance and promote the city's interest.
